Caitlin should be a paid ModCloth employee at this point

13 Aug

It’s become something of a running joke when my friends ask me where I bought my shoes, my dress, my earrings, or anything that I’m wearing. They’ll ask me*, and then give me a loving smirk and, before I can answer, they say, “Is it ModCloth?” As a curvier lady who is very interested in curating my own fashion sensibilities, ModCloth has been my haven over the past few years. Right around the time that I met Zack, I was visiting their site more and more frequently, and finally making purchases to see if these beautiful items actually fit me in person. Lo and behold, 8 out of 10 times the fit is perfect, and in those other instances, the company offers free return shipping. I’d say 90% of my wardrobe is ModCloth items at this point (with the other 10% being band tees), and I love it. Zack has always been patient and allowed me to indulge in showing him items** to help me figure out what to get, and this past weekend, he was my equally patient photographer***, capturing some looks that I just got in the mail. Akin to his trunk club, what follows is look at a few new styles I’m trying out.

*Oh, it rarely gets that far. Before someone can say “I love your dre…” I got it at ModCloth!

**I enjoy it. Sometimes Caitlin will send a few too many at once and I’ll ask her to e-mail a list. Last week she sent me a list with 17. I gave them all a 1-10 grade.

***Even more fun. She’s a lovely model and wears this stuff so darn well. The only difficulty was getting Scooby to stop interrupting.

Tie-waist shirts paired with high-waisted jean shorts have been all the rage this summer, and I finally decided to take the plunge into this pin-up throwback style. The shoes are an older ModCloth purchase, and what I adore about them that you can’t really see here is that in the heel, there’s a cutout of a heart shape. J’adore! This outfit is just the cutest. Those shorts are especially great.

I’ve also been playing around with summer-friendly (and bike-friendly) hairstyles, and this is one that looks far more complicated than it is for a put-together look in a pinch. I just do two quick braids and pin them across the nape of my neck. Mmm that hairdo is so lovely and it still holds together under a bike helmet.

I was adjusting my wardrobe in this photo, but it’s the best look you’ll get at the tie-waist in this series. I love the shirt’s pocket and starched collar, too! This made me smile the most. I had to keep taking a pic while she got up on her toes to adjust.

Scooby was looking mighty adorable, too, so he wanted to be a part of the photo day. Scooby’s really pulling off that collar.

I’d always eyed little booties like these before, but never thought I would be able to pull them off. I’m so glad that Zack encouraged me to get them, because they’re incredible. They’re super comfortable, and even though they were a bit narrow at first, since they’re faux-suede they stretched with my feet. That’s right:  vegan-friendly shoes! My brother would be proud. The dress was a steal at $20, and it has an adorable cutout back that I didn’t have photographed because I don’t have underthings that go with it yet. The booties are quickly becoming her go-to shoes when we go out and with good reason. They’re so foxy! The dress got an 8, but a 9 due to the price. What a steal at $20! I did promise to buy Caitlin a backless bra as soon as she can find one.

The necklace is another older ModCloth purchase, but the earrings are new and I LOVE them. They were also on sale, and at just $6 they seemed like the perfect fit for this dress. Sorry about my scary zombie-eyes. Try not to have nightmares. Not scary! Adorable eyes.

Another new “on trend” item, this denim-looking skirt is actually 100% cotton and SO comfortable. It’s well-made, long enough so that I can ride my bike in it, and the pockets. THE POCKETS. I’ve already stored keys, sunglasses, and my phone in them. I tried it out with my tie-waist shirt and booties, and I felt like it was the perfect casual summer look. Those pockets are the best pockets you can get without being a kangaroo.

Hammin’ it up. Hehe hi there, darlin’.

More cheesin’. Best picture in the bunch. I love unguarded Caitlin.

Finally, I got this ring that I’ve dubbed the “Twitter ring,” and I also wore my Sigur Ros necklace that Zack bought as a gift for me. I love that I have a boyfriend who encourages me to play dress-up. Everybody needs to pamper themselves sometimes, and I finally feel like I’m representing myself on the outside as I feel on the inside. Yayy! I love that these awesome clothes are giving Caitlin confidence to be the wonderful woman she is. ❤

I’ve never shopped at modcloth but I’m thinking now that maybe I should! Those shorts look gorgeous on you xx

You’re too sweet!! Thank you for the compliment and for reading:) And truly, I recommend ModCloth so highly, because their return policy is so wonderful, and it’s fairly easy to tell if something will fit you based on both the measurements ModCloth lists, and the really excellent customer reviews. I always tell my friends about to take the plunge to read the reviews so you know when things run large, small, strange, and anywhere in between.

Side note – we were not paid by ModCloth to make this post, I’m just really that big of an addict;)

Oh my gosh. I freaking LOVE ModCloth but I’m really against shipping overseas so I never buy anything. Whenever I visit family in the US or they visit it’s like a massive treat to have an order or them bring one over. But it’s seriously the only website I ever shop on as I can’t stand online shopping normally. Also I do the same wishlist sending thing with James and he is rarely as patient as your fella! HAHA xxxxx

Hahaha yeah, Zack is a patient lad;) Also you totally bring up a good point I hadn’t even considered – do they do free return shipping for UK customers? I feel like maybe they have a more strict return policy for overseas shipments, which is unfortunate:/ But at least they have all of those amazing customer reviews so you can generally tell what you’re getting into!

They don’t do free return shipping and also customs is hideous! The one order I placed I had to pay £46 customs just to get it over. Most companies have customs sorted out in the shipping so I was more than a little annoyed. I will just get my modcloth fix when I next visit! X
